First aid is, in the opinion of the author of this post, the single most important book for the first two years of medical school. It does not contain everything you need to know. But, everything in this book is necessary for you to learn for step. Step prep is ultimately the goal of the first two years of medical school. The primary shortcoming of First Aid is that often times it leaves out necessary detail for learning a topic. It is not the resource to learn a topic with, but after you understand the basics of a topic it will tell you what’s important.
For objectives, it is the first place that I go to look for information. If first aid has a section about something that information is what we need to know about it. You would be doing a disservice to your peers if you do not tell them what first aid says about a topic.
