Primary Literature

General

Primary literature is a necessary evil for the PBL process. One of the goals of PBL is to develop students who can parse through primary literature to keep up to date with current medical knowledge and practice. That being said, objectives are difficult and take time. Primary literature is recommended when necessary, but it’s often best to start with review sources such as Amboss or UpToDate. These resources typically review the literature for you to save time. If you need to, then use primary literature, but it’s often difficult and takes a long time. Use it as a tertiary resource when necessary, but don’t stress over it. Some facilitators may stress its importance, but this is more on a case-by-case basis.
